Research participation information

Platform notice last reviewed: 5 September 2026

1. Account use is not research consent

LearnAdapt supports teaching tools and approved research projects. Creating an account or using a course tool does not automatically enrol you in research. A study may collect research data only after you receive its approved Participant Information Sheet and Consent Form (PISCF), choose to participate, and the study's ethics and consent checks are active.

2. Service data and research data are separate

The platform may process the minimum information needed to provide and secure your account and course service. A particular approved study may separately request permission for items such as:

  • structured interaction records, such as attempts or hints;
  • responses to approved research assessments or surveys;
  • follow-up contact or future use of coded data.

The exact data, purpose, storage, retention and choices are defined by that study's approved documents. Raw dialogue, media/recordings, official grades, third-party transfer and public release are not inferred from general participation; each requires an applicable approved scope and any separate consent described in the PISCF.

3. Privacy and data security

Research records are governed by project roles, consent and ethics status. Coded or pseudonymised data can still carry re-identification risk and is not automatically anonymous. Please avoid entering unnecessary personal information into learning tools. The platform does not promise that every name, email or other identifier typed into free text will be detected or removed automatically.

4. Your choices

Research participation is voluntary and separate from ordinary course access. You may decline or withdraw as described in the approved PISCF without academic penalty. What happens to information already collected, and any limits on deletion after analysis or anonymised release, are governed by that PISCF and the approved retention plan. Deleting an account is not a substitute for submitting a study withdrawal request.

5. The study-specific form controls

This page is a platform notice, not a PISCF and not a consent form. For questions or withdrawal, use the contacts and process printed in the specific study documents shown to you. If those documents are not available, do not submit research responses and contact the course or study team.

No registration checkbox can replace the approved, versioned study consent process.
